A Park with a Story!
Way back in 1904, a man named Moses A. Gunst, who sold cigars and worked as the San Francisco’s Police Commissioner fell in love with a beautiful piece of land in Burlingame. He built a fancy 17-room mansion on it with gardens full of flowers and big, beautiful trees all around. That land is now Washington Park! The mansion may be gone, but the trees and open space still make it a magical place for families to play, picnic, and explore. Many of the magnificent large trees in the park date back to the estate. The baseball grandstand in the park dates back to the '30s. It was renovated in 1989. It still retains its original character and plenty of home runs.
Amenities: playground, swings, picnic tables, dog park, rock climbing, baseball field, tennis and basketball courts, and soccer field.
Well ranked and well placed: Top tier schools: Burlingame High, Burlingame Intermediate and McKinley elementary. This neighborhood really has it all - great schools, a strong community, and a place to grow. Kids start at McKinley with backpacks bigger than they are, move on to Burlingame Intermediate, and then Burlingame High which by the way is ranked #2 among all public high schools and #1 for college prep in San Mateo County.
